Welcome to ALLIANCE AGAINST HOMELESSNESS!
“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
- Maya Angelou
Providing a stable, comfortable home, guidance and support enables our residents to live a full, well-rounded life that most of us take for granted. Sharing moments, a smile, tears and laughter are what make our clients and staff - family. Your support allows us to unite in working to keep our mission strong and moving forward successfully. Thank you for being a part of our extended family.
Ours - are houses with a heart. AAH of Bergen County, Inc. is a non-profit organization incorporated to develop and operate permanent supportive housing for homeless adults. Many of the people we serve have a serious mental illness and/or another disability. We own and operate five state licensed residences which house 20 men and women. We also provide case management services to more than 45 adults who live in single apartments through the Bergen County community.
During the 25 years that AAH has been in operation, our services have evolved, encompassing solutions to many problems induced by mental illness and homelessness. Our aim has been to solve these problems in the most personal and compassionate manner, always aiming toward stabilizing lives and alleviating suffering.
We are proof that supportive housing promotes stability, wellness and recovery, continuity of services and supportive relationships. The individuals we serve demonstrate daily their ability to maintain themselves in an independent living environment. Our success can be seen in the positive changes in the lives of the men and women we work with on a daily basis.
The members of the AAH Board of Trustees are volunteers who are mental health consumers and/or professionals of various disciplines such as healthcare, public relations, finance, law and non-profit administration. All support the organization with financial and in-kind donations and help us meet our strategic goals and objectives with their time, energy, skills and commitment.
AAH staff are experienced and qualified professionals trained to handle psychiatric emergencies and are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our mix of professionals and peers, as direct care support teams, enable our clientele to have the benefit of shared experiences and strong educational training in guiding their individual growth. We believe each person can change their future in a positive way if given the correct tools. AAH offers these tools.
